Helpful Tips

  • If you have expensive and/ or valuable artwork/ collectibles appraised (government does not pay for appraisals), you may take your videos/ photos to document the conditions of your items.
  • If you encounter any issues or have concerns, contact your transportation office (JPPSO) and ask to speak to a QA/ QC inspector.
  • Appendix K "It's Your Move" will be your best friend throughout the whole move. This packet may be found on www.ustranscom.mil "appendix K"
  • DO NOT SHIP: stocks, binds, jewelry, coin collection, or sentimental items

    • The correct date you wish to travel
  • The DMO will need a new PCR from IPAC if:

Documents Required to book PCS Travel

  • From IPAC, you should receive:
    • A Port Call Request
    • DD Form 884 (if you have dependents)
      • Verify your documents have the same locations and travel dates listed
  • The DMO will require the two documents listed above as well as your Web Orders or DMO Endorsement ((if you are Retiring/ EASing)

Leave in-Conjunction with Orders (LICWO)

  • If you are requesting to go to an alternate or leave location in conjunction with your PCS, you can either:
    • Conduct a ticket exchange
    • Self-procure through the TMC

Ticket Exchanges

  • After your flights have been booked, return to DMO 10 business days prior to your departure.
    • A DMO rep will counsel you on LICWO document and advise you of your allotted travel funds
    • The ticket exchange must be conducted with the same carrier you are initially booked on.
    • Ticket exchanges are accompanied by CWTSATO fee, which is &38.50 per ticket.

Self Procurement

  • Self-Procurement MUST be completed with the TMC through DMO, or you risk not being reimbursed.
  • Self-Procurement allows you to pay upfront with a personal credit card and fly to your leave location on any airline you'd like.
  • You will receive reimbursement upon completion of your travel claim at your new duty station.
    • Members retiring or EASing please reach out to MCBH finance to complete your final travel claim.
  • Once you have received your PCR from IPAC, Self-Procurement can be completed at any time.
    • Be cautious when ticketing, you will only receive reimbursement for one flight up to the cost of the travel from your old PDS to new PDS.
  • Come to the DMO with your required documentation and a DMO rep will counsel you on the Self-Procurement document and advise you of your allotted travel funds.

Early Ticketing

  • Early ticketing allows the member to ticket their flights 30 days prior to departure rather than 3 business days.
  • Early ticketing is advantageous for members:
    • with pets
    • with large families traveling to a leave location
    • for service members required to travel on a non-US flag carrier
  • See the Passenger Travel section for more info on early ticketing.

Estimating your HHG Weight

  • An easy and fairly dependable method for making this estimate is to figure 1,000 pounds per room (not to include storage or bathroom) and then ass the estimated weight of large appliances and items in the garage, storage rooms, basements, etc. The weight estimator is located in DPS by weight estimation box.
  • Weight estimates does not mean actual weight, they are planning tools only.
  • Members may be subject to excess cost if out of authorized entitlements and excess weight.

**IMPORTANT**

When shipping a motorcycle, the following outlines your responsibilities during the moving process:

  • Fuel injected models must be drained of fuel. Carbureted models must be drained down to reserve, or as low as possible. This can be done by running the engine until empty and/ or using a siphoning device.
  • Make sure that tires are properly inflated, and vehicle is free of fluid leaks. Oil, transmission and fuel leaks are the usual culprits that must be repaired prior to shipment.
  • Disconnect battery and tape ends with electrical tape to prevent sparking.
  • Empty saddlebags and ensure you remove all belongings. Any paperwork, keys,  boxes, or spare parts need to be shipped separately. Saddlebags and windshields can stay on the motorcycle and helmets may be shipped as long as they are securely strapped to the motorcycle. Note: Ensure inventory reflects when helmet is attached to the motorcycle.
  • Ensure motorcycle is unlocked so the driver can roll onto the truck and onto the skid.
  • If equipped with a full style touring windshield, it is recommended that it be removed and shipped separately (crated if necessary)
  • Please make sure to annotate in DPS for any Firearms/ Motorcycles/ Water-crafts/ Trailers under remarks/ additional items ***Notify counselor if your watercraft/ Trailer is over 14ft.

Compliance with the law is your responsibility

  • Privately owned firearms can be shipped via HHG/ UB however, YOU should always verify the host nations rules and regulations.
