Learn about Hawaiian culture and traditions in this verdant, beautiful, and sacred valley. There are opportunities to see examples of how ancient Hawaiians lived, participate in hands-on crafts and games, and learn values that remain at the heart of Hawaiian culture. The whole family can participate in a program called “Kaʻapuni o Waimea” (“to travel around/circuit Waimea”) and earn a Hoʻokipa Cultural Ambassador certificate and pin (hoʻokipa: hospitality/giving): ask about this activity at the ticket booth.
Special note: If the waterfall is open (this is dependent on conditions), you may want to be prepared with your swimsuits for an experience the whole family is unlikely to forget.
E Mālama I ka Āina: Take Care of the Land that Sustains Us, focuses on the reciprocal relationship between land and people, conveyed through the cultivation of food. Through fun, hands-on activities, students learn how to mālama plants, grow seeds, make natural insect repellent, and create compost.
