During the time of the Jedi Order, children began training to become a Jedi at a very young age, with Anakin viewed as being behind when he was just nine-years-old. This is quite different from the path that Luke went on. He was 19-years-old when he learned about his connection to the Force and began to learn about it from Obi-Wan Kenobi.
